How To Make A Cobra Mask
Learn to make this scary snake mask with Corina Bona, professional prop and puppet maker. This mask is great for a children's party, fancy dress or Halloween.
You Will Need
- 1 paper plate
- red paper
- pre-cut green tissue paper circles
- masking tape
- 1 black marker pen
- PVA glue
Use the marker pen to draw eyes, scales around the eyes, nostrils, a large V shape with scales for the mouth, and some eyebrows with scales.
Pierce the plate in the middle of the eyes, then cut the eye shapes out.
Cut the plate with a PVA and water solution, then stick on the circles of tissue paper; leave the tissue to dry.
While the plate is drying: cut a long strip of the red paper, cut a fork for the tongue, and gently curl the paper by running the blade of the scissors along it.
When the plate is dry, you can cut away the excess tissue paper, and cut the bottom of the mask into a V shape. Fold the plate in half, then make a cut where you drew on the mouth. Fold the bottom of the mouth back, then forwards to create a pleat. Stick the tongue to the back of the mask with tape, so the end is poking though the mouth hole.
Cut some of the plate you cut away into fang shapes and stick then to the inside of the mouth with tape.
Use the black marker pen to draw over the details on the mask.
Staple each end of the string to the mask next to the eyes, measure the mask to your head, and tie a knot to secure it.
