Hi! I'm Nick Malone and I'm an artist based in London and I run classes here at the studio for beginners in art at my studio where you can always find us at our website www.londonartclasses.com and there's also a link to the londonartclasses.

com from the internet page that you're on at the moment. With a poster you're almost certainly trying to advertise something. So let's say that you're trying to advertise a talk on different forms of life.

Now you might get the title just by going on to your computer and printing and designing the title as you want. Typing it up on a text edit or whatever it is and printing it out and placing it across or atop of your base or you may decide just to as I'm doing here, take part of a magazine and let's say that the title is called the layers of life. You could have that at the top and then what you are going to do is you are going to build up your poster with elements of collage that are pasted on to it because it is dealing with layer of life and you want something quite attractive that people are going to be attracted to when they see the poster and build up the images like that.

And then at the bottom here you could have details of shall we say, if it's a talk the venue, the date and the time. You print it out of your computer and just stick along the bottom so that it forms a coherent whole. The way in which you could stick this together is probably using an acrylic medium like this.

You could use ordinary glue but acrylic is a very good adhesive that doesn't degrade or a acrylic gel and you just take a palate knife out and stick this on together so that finally you've got your poster. The great advantage of doing a poster using collage is that you can put all the elements in together and move them around until you've got just the combination that you want. When it looks right, it feels good and then you can stick it all down permanently and your poster away and you could then scan your poster and you could print it off from your home computer if you want lots of copes of them to go up on shop windows and so on.
