Top Tips

  • A hexagon is made up of six sides, with a 60 degree angle at each corner. It's a great shape for a quilt, its six sides giving great scope for colour variety and interesting patterns. It can also be folded into other shapes very easily, and joined together to make bigger hexagons!
  • Draft your own hexagons using graph paper, a protractor and a ruler or use pre-printed hexagons.
  • Paper-piecing is where material is tacked and sewn around a paper template to make it easier to create the shape, but also to make it easier to join other pieces to it. When you have made and joined together a whole section of the quilt, you can remove the paper pieces by simply pulling them out.
