How To Make A Long Island Iced Tea Cocktail
Step 1: You will need
- 30 ml rum
- 30 ml vodka
- 30 ml Cointreau
- 30 ml tequila
- 30 ml gin
- 1 lemon
- 150 ml Coca-cola
- 1 lemon slice, to decorate
- 1 50/25ml measuring cup
- 1 chopping board
- 1 sharp knife
- 1 juice squeezer
- 1 highball or tall glass
- 1 stirrer
- 1 straw
Step 2: Prepare the cocktail
We're going to stir this cocktail. A drink that is stirred instead of shaken will retain its clarity and be free of ice chips. You should stir it enough to mix the ingredients, but no too much or the ice will begin to dilute the flavour.
First, take a highball glass, and add three large ice cubes. Now measure out 30ml, or a medium splash of rum. Pour it directly over the ice in your glass. Next, measure out 30ml or a medium splash of vodka, and add this to the glass. Now, add 30ml or a medium splash of Cointreau, 30ml or a medium splash of tequila, and 30ml or a medium splash of gin.
Now, take a fresh lemon, cut it in half, and give one half a good squeeze directly into the glass to sharpen up the flavour. Top up the cocktail with Coca Cola to give a little fizz.
Step 3: Present the cocktail and serve
Now take a slice from the remaining lemon half, and cut a small groove in the juicy part and then place the lemon slice on the glass for decoration. Finally, add a stirrer and a straw and you can now enjoy your classic cocktail.
Tips & Comments
some of us like to drink our drinks! - so there for a bit of mixer goes along way, i like mine to last so i like a alot but it is all down to your own taste x
First of all to u guys who says to use sour mix. Wrong. Every cocktails will have a more fresh taste if u use fresh ingridients. For example with a long island (my favorite drink). I've tried all of these methods to make this delicious drink (shaken or stirred) and i have to say that it's a good long island iced tea even though i tend to shake it instead. If u just have one splash of cola, then u will ruin this delicious long drink. U could as well begin to just take it as a shot instead of enjoying this drink. There has to be a balance between the alcohol and the mixer.
It's called an 'iced tea' because, if prepared properly, the drink has a color similar to iced tea. Back during the days of Prohibition, people would make these and add a lemon on the top so that the drink looked like an actual iced tea instead of an alcoholic beverage.
why the hell is this called an Ice tea. There is no tea in it. I dont drink alchohol and sometimes i drink a mocktail to give company, I really have never been a cocktail drinker so i really dont know what mocktails contain. I like iced tea and I am glad the other day i did not order this Long Island Ice tea. I have to make a mental note.
I disagree with the others here. The amount of coke is perfect. Generally bartender try to ploy their customers for bigger tips with a heavy handed drink but that doesnt mean it tastes good. As far as the sour mix goes I think the lemon makes more sense. Sour mix is vile crap and its used cause its cheap. A fresh squeeze of lemon sounds like a welcome addition.
First of all, the British guy doesn't affect the taste of the drink, but your right on one thing...way too much cola...only a splash is required to "stain" the drink...and about that sour mix...if some sugar was added, he would have been in the ballpark. Other than that, needs more ice.
first of all...the british guy needs to go. Second of all the drink is wrong. There's too much cola, it's only supposed to be a splash on to top it off. Also, where's the sour mix? Last time i checked, a squeezed lemon isn't sour mix. Higly dissapointed, end of story.
