Ingredients

  • marzipan
  • food paste colouring

Method

First, colour the marzipan using a concentrated food paste colouring. Add a small amount of colour and knead through the paste until evenly mixed.

Roll a piece of coloured marzipan into a ball and, using your fingers, roll one end into a cone shape. Flatten the base so that it stands up.

Roll the remaining marzipan out fairly thinly. Dust your worktop with icing sugar to prevent the marzipan from sticking. Using a rose petal cutter, cut out three petal shapes. Pinch the top edge between your finger and thumb, and wrap each petal tightly around the cone. Repeat with a further three petals. Slot each petal into the one before and curl the edges out to make more realistic petals.

To make a full rose, repeat this process with a further five petals. Once you're happy with the shape of your rose, cut the excess marzipan from the bottom.
