How To Make A Simple Skirt
In this VideoJug film, fashion designer and sewing expert Miss Libby Rose shows you how to make a beautiful and simple skirt.
You Will Need
- fabric
- pins
- weights
- sewing machine
- thread
- fabric scissors
- sewing pattern
- zip
Method
Using a sewing machine, sew up the seams, leaving a 1.5 cm allowance on both sides. You can use a zig-zag stitch to prevent fraying. Begin with a backstitch - 3 to 4 stitches backwards and forwards to secure the seam. Repeat on the other side of the skirt.
Fit the skirt to determine where to place and pin the darts. Sew in the darts, following the chalk line. Remember to begin with a backstitch.
Sew the facing to the front of the skirt, with the right sides facing each other and a 1.5 cm seam allowance. When finished, press the facing down so it sits flat.
Pin the zip into place, with the top of the zip leading into the facing. Sew the back seam into the bottom of the zip. Swap to a zip footing to finish the zip seam with a top stitch.
To hem the skirt, roll up the bottom edges twice to ensure that none of the frayed edges are showing. Sew all the way around.
