Ingredients

  • 250 g chuck steak
  • 180 ml red wine
  • 40 g white mushrooms
  • 120 ml ale
  • pepper
  • salt
  • shortcrust pastry
  • olive oil
  • parsley
  • flour
  • 750 ml beef stock

Step 1: Fry The Steak

Season the 250g chuck steak with bit of pepper and little bit of salt, then dust with a little flour. Heat some oil in a frying pan, then add the steak and cook for about 5-6 minutes.

Step 2: Cook The Vegetables

Pour 180ml red wine into the pan. Reduce the red wine to a syrup, which should take about 2 or 3 minutes. Pour some oil into a separate pan, and add 50g baby onions and 40g white mushrooms to it. Once the onions and mushrooms are cooked, pour them into the chuck steak pan, then add 750ml of beef stock.

Step 3: Stew The Beef

Add the ale and bring everything back to the boil. Transfer the mixture into an ovenproof dish, put the lid on, and place in the oven at 170-180 for two and half hours.

Step 4: Make The Pie

Transfer the meat mixture into your pie dish. Roll your pastry into a round shape, then place it over your pie dish, gently tucking in the edges. Brush the top and side of the pastry with egg wash, make an indentation in the middle of the pastry and put it it in oven for 10-15 mins. When the pie is ready, brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle over some chopped parsley.
