How To Make A T-Rex Mask
Mask making is a great activity for children's parties, or just for rainy afternoons! In this step by step guide Corina Bona, professional puppet and prop maker, shows you how to make a dinosaur mask.
You Will Need
- scissors
- 1 paper plate
- 1 pen
- 1 stapler
- string
- PVA glue
- pre-cut tissue circles
Method
Mark out where your eye holes are going to go on the bottom of the paper plate using your pen. Stab through the eye holes with your scissors, then cut out the eye shapes.
Draw on some scale shapes around the eyes, wrinkles under the eyes, a nose, some nostrils, a large V shape lined with scales for the mouth, eyebrows with scales, and larger scales all the way around the face.
Cover the dinosaur with PVA solution, then stick on the circles of tissue paper. Don't worry about being too neat; it looks best when the paper circles overlap. Once the glue has dried, cut away the excess tissue paper.
Fold the mask in half and cut along the mouth line, then cut downwards from the top of the nose. Cut the eyebrows by folding along the centre of the eye.
Fold back at the corners of the mouth, leave about a finger of space, then fold forwards again; this should give you a beak shape.
Draw over the detail to make it visible again.
Staple the string to the back of the mask near the eyes, tape over the string, then measure the mask to your head size and tie a knot in the string.
