Now, I'm going to show you how to make an Americano. Now, an Americano is essentially just a black coffee. If you wanted to, you can add milk to it.

There are lots of different variations of this. There's an Americano where we have a doppio or a double espresso on the bottom and then we top it up with hot water. The other variation is something called a long black which is probably preferred by baristas and people really into that coffee.

The only difference is that you have the water in first and then you add your doppio or double espresso to the top. That allows the crema layer to sit nicely across the top of your coffee and it doesn't break down. You keep the nice sweetness and you keep the flavours from the coffee.

But we're going to show you an Americano. We've got our doppio, our double espresso into the bottom of our cup and we take some nice hot water. This needs to be in about 88 to 90 degrees Celsius.

It doesn't want to be too hot, certainly doesn't want to be boiling, otherwise, you start scalding the coffee in the bottom and that would mask some of the beautiful flavours that you've got with your coffee. And literally, you just pour this gently across onto the top and fill up your cup to whichever level you like. This is a 12-ounce cup so I'm taking it all the way to the top which is about the right properties for a doppio or double espresso in the bottom of the cup.

And that is how to produce an Americano. .
