Step 1: You will need

  • some orange slices
  • some maraschino cherries
  • few drops Angostura bitters
  • 3 tsp sugar gomme
  • 60 ml Bourbon
  • some ice cubes
  • 1 short glass
  • 1 muddler
  • 1 bar spoon
  • 1 single shot measure (bottom shallow half)
  • 1 double shot measure

Step 2: Orange

First, place about 3 slices of orange in a glass

Step 3: Cherries

Add a couple of cherries

Step 4: Angostura

A few drops of Angostura bitters

Step 5: Muddle

Lightly muddle the fruit with the Angostura in the glass

Step 6: Remove fruit

Squeeze out as much juice from the fruit as possible with a bar spoon and take out the remaining orange slices and cherries.

Step 7: Sugar gomme

Add 3 teaspoons of sugar gomme

Step 8: Bourbon and ice

Now start adding the bourbon. Measure the first 10 ml and add to the glass. Then add a few ice cubes and slowly stir for about 20 seconds. Repeat this a few times with a further 50 ml of bourbon, so you are adding about 10 ml each time, followed by a little ice and then stirring, until the glass is full of ice and 60 ml of bourbon has been added in total.

Step 9: Garnish

Cut a sliver of orange peel and squeeze some of its juice into the cocktail. Run it around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink. Finish by adding a cherry.

Step 10: And serve

Wow. Definitely a very easy recipe made complex. Take 1 sugar cube, soak w/bitters, add a little water to dissolve sugar, fill glass 2/3 with ice, add bourbon whiskey, stir, top of with water. Simple as that. If you want you can add a cherry and orange, but not required.
