How To Make An Origami Stem

uk. We are now going to make an origami stem, which could hold a flower. So here we have a piece of paper, green on one side, white on the other.

The first thing you do is fold the piece of paper in half diagonally. Now, this is a little trick I learned years ago for making neat folds to a crease point. It is much easier to fold to a line like this which is away from you than it is for example, to try to do the same fold while the paper is open.

It is much harder to see where the fold is supposed to go. whenever you can always make sure to fold to a crease point like that. What we are going to do is, fold this raw edge up to the center, same on the other side, then we have got a little white triangle and a big green triangle.

Then we fold the raw edge of the green triangle up, and the same for the other side. So we finish up with a diamond shape smooth on one side and with flaps on the other side. What we do now is fold the paper diagonally the other way, and when you do that, you can refold the raw edges in, refold the top raw edges in and you have a flap that automatically makes itself fit.

One of these little flaps we just made and we folded downward, now we fold it up on top of itself. So we have one of our little points pointing upwards and one of our little points pointing over. We turn our diamond over the long side pointing down and we fold the side up almost in half not quite to the edge, same on the other side.

There! We have a point here with a piece of paper that wraps itself around from the front. At that point, you want to make a crease directly upwards than we bend it backwards, how we got between here and there does not really matter, we will make it just under an inch. What we are now going to do is fold that folded edge and this folded edge back into the center , so what we are doing is making the stem from this bottom piece.

The stem of the stem on top of it is going to be the leaves. We now turn it over so that the little pointy bit that stuck out to the right before sticks out and the other point over like that. We are now going to fold this long piece which forms the main leaf over onto the side and the crease is from where the angle changes up until where these pieces make the cross.

You can feel it from the very thick piece of paper that stops you from going any further. Now we are going to fold this raw edge and these other bits and pieces on to this folded edge that we just made. And now, if you open the model up and put your finger in the fold in the back, you can reverse those folds this way and you have a leaf shape.

Fold that over itself the other way and then we are going to constant this top piece of the leaf, and open it up as a leaf that is all nice and curly, and you do the same with these little leaves as well. Just fold this little one over onto itself, and here is the stem. Now what I am going to do do is join the stem to this rose that I made earlier.

On this rose, we have zigzag points that fit underneath the model. Fold the outer paper over that thing to lock it in place, put the other one in and then fold the whole leaf back on itself and then back up again. What that will do is lock those creases in place.

They are now firmly held to the stem.
