How To Make An Over The Hill Cake

This over the hill cake is the perfect way to welcome a friend into middle age. We've teamed up with expert Sugarcrafter Jan Clement-May and sugarcraft school, Squires Kitchen, to show you how to make it.

Step 1: Shape cake

Spread a small amount of buttercream in the centre of the large cake, and stick the smaller cake on top. Carve round the top outside rim of both cakes to make a rough dome shape.

Step 2: Buttercream

Spread a line of white buttercream around and over the cake, like a winding road. Then add the green food coloring to the rest of the buttercream and stir in. Cover the rest of the cake with the green buttercream.

Step 3: Sweeties

Using a spoon, carefully sprinkle hundreds and thousands over the white buttercream. Press green jellybeans in a line around the base of the cake.

Step 4: Models

Stick some plastic trees into the buttercream to give the hill a bit of life, and finish by positioning a model car just over the brow of the hill. You can also stick a couple of other models around the front of the cake.
