How To Make Apple Pie

An Apple Pie Recipe just like your mother used to make it! Follow this traditional but easy recipe to make one of the most well-loved desserts. Sample our Apple Pie recipe.

Step 1:

You will need

  • 8 apples peeled, cored and sliced
  • 100 g sugar
  • 100 g butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 packet short crust pastry
  • 1 knife
  • 1 oven dish
  • 1 pastry dish
  • 1 tablespoon

Step 2:

Preheat the oven

Set the oven to 230ºC (450ºF/ gas mark 8).

Step 3:

Mix sugar and cinnamon

Add the cinnamon to the sugar, mix together well and set aside for later.

Step 4:

Make the pie

Layer the bottom of the oven dish with some sliced apples. Sprinkle over the cinnamon and sugar mix, then add another layer of apples. Gently push the apples down and then sprinkle over more of the sugar mix. Keep layering and sprinkling until the dish is full. Finish with a generous sprinkle of the sugar mix on top. Finally dot knobs of butter around the dish.

Step 5:

Lay the pastry

Lay the pre-rolled short crust pastry over the dish and lightly push down the edges of the pastry with your fingertips - a technique known as crimping. Trim away any excess pastry and finally, make roughly eight small horizontal incisions in the pastry to help the pie breath.

Step 6:

Bake

Place the pie in the bottom of the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Lower the heat to 175ºC (325ºF/ gas mark 3) and bake for a further 30-35 minutes.

Step 7:

Remove from the oven

When the pastry is golden brown all over remove the pie from the oven.

Step 8:

Present and serve

Slice a generous portion and place it onto a serving plate. Add a dash of cream and serve!
