How To Make BBQ Blackened Sirloin Steak With Sweet Onions

Step 1: You will need...
- 2 x 250g sirloin steaks
- 1 tbsp cumin powder
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp ground black pepper
- ½ tbsp garlic powder
- ½ tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
- 2 onions, peeled and sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 30 g butter
- 1 tbsp honey
- salt and pepper
- 2 bowls
- 1 tongs
- 1 spoon
- 1 barbecue, either charcoal or gas
- 1 bottle of water for dousing any flames
Step 2: Prepare the barbecue
If you plan to use a charcoal barbecue, light it 30-45 minutes before you cook and wait until the charcoal has turned white and there are no more flames. If you are using an electric barbecue, turn to high and leave for 20 minutes to heat up.
Step 3: Season the steaks
Into the bowl add the cumin, oregano, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, coriander, paprika, salt and parsley. Mix the ingredients together and add the steaks. Ensure that the steaks are entirely covered and drizzle over with oil.
Step 4: Barbecue the steaks
Cook the steaks on the barbecue for 4-6 minutes, depending on how you prefer the meat.
Step 5: Barbecue the onions
While the steaks cook, drizzle the onions with oil and add them to the barbecue. Cook the onions for 5 minutes.
Step 6: Finish the barbecuing
Turn the steaks over and cook for a further 4-6 minutes. Do the same with the onions until they are soft. Remove them from the barbecue when ready.
Step 7: Finish the onions
Into the other bowl add the softened onions, butter and honey. Season well with salt and mix together well.
Step 8: Serve and garnish
Transfer the steaks to serving plates, heap with onions and garnish with a few sprigs of parsley. Enjoy with a full glass of red wine, a green salad and a slice of crusty bread.
