- fondant icing
- black food paste colouring
- gum tragacanth
Make sure you wear gloves when dying icing, to prevent the colour getting on your hands.
Cut off a piece of fondant icing and add black food paste colouring using a cocktail stick. Make sure you use past colouring. Liquid colourings are not as strongly coloured and will make the icing too sticky. Knead until the colour is evenly distributed and add until you have the shade you want.
To strengthen the fondant, add a couple of pinches of gum tragacanth to the mixture and knead until combined.
Black fondant is ideal for decorating cakes for Hallowe'en.
