How To Make Blue Playdoh
It's always fun to have activities to do around the house with kids especially if they're young. Makings things like blue playdoh can be fun as well, as this video will demonstrate.
Right, now I'm going to show how to make blue playdoh. It's something you can make easy at home with easily available ingredients and really any color you can use. But today, we're going to be using blue simply by using blue food coloring.
We're going to be using some plain flour in this bowl here. We're going with 2 cups of this. This is the cup I used, doesn't matter how big your cup is because you will use 1 cup of table salt so 2 parts flour, 1 part salt.
Now, to improve the consistency of this, we're going to be adding some cream of tartar, probably something you've never used before but it is very easy to find in your supermarket, and we're also going to be using some vegetable oil. Can be any form of oil really, again it's just to help to make a bit more relaxed, a bit more doughy. What we need to do, we're going to add our flour to a saucepan, then again our salt.
Then we're going to use 1 tablespoon of the cream of tartar, and we're going to be using 2 tablespoons of the vegetable oil. Now, to mix it all together, we are going to need some warm water and we are going to use 2 cups of the warm water. It really doesn't matter as long as you get all of the proportions correct, 2 of water, 2 of flower, 1 of salt, 1 tablespoon of tartar and 2 of vegetable oil, and it will all work out nicely.
So we'll just give this a good mix now. Don't worry too much about any of the lumps that you're inevitably going to get, and once we've got this fairly mixed in, we're going to apply it to a low heat until we get the right consistency. You'll start to see the consistency has really changed, it's not even that thin liquid in to something like this and really very doughy.
As you can see, it's all in 1 lump, there's none sticking to the sides. At this point, you're done with your cooking. All I'm going to do is put it in to this bowl over here.
Then wait for it to cool. So now that we've done our cooking and we've allowed the playdoh to cool, we've got a nice big lump here. As I mentioned before, we're going to be using blue coloring.
I'll just take a small lump of it and put it to the side. Here we are, just blue food color, standard food color, I'll make the hole in the middle, pour in some of our food color, remembering the more you pour in, the darker you're going to get. This can get a bit messy, so if you do want to wear gloves or something like that just to keep it off your hands.
You're going to start folding it over and then as you can see, as you fold it over, you start to get a lovely color. Keep going until you've got it nicely mixed through, a nice consistent color through out it all. The more you work it, the better it will be.
And here we are, blue playdoh. .
