Ingredients

  • onions, chopped
  • minced lamb or beef
  • garlic, chopped
  • chopped tomatoes
  • red wine
  • olive oil
  • chilli powder

Method

Cook the mince in a pan with some olive oil for around a minute, until the meat has taken on some colour. Take the pan off the heat, remove the mince and set aside.

Add the chopped onions to the pan, place back on the hob and cook in olive oil or butter for a couple of minutes before adding the garlic and some chili powder. Add some red wine. Scrape off any pieces of mince that have stuck to the bottom of the pan. After a couple of minutes, the alcohol will have burned off, preventing any bitterness. Add the chopped tomatoes and stir through. Mix in the minced meat and leave to simmer for a few minutes, until the sauce has thickened and reduced.
