So, for example, a lot of girls do sailor acts, or pirate acts, it depends on exactly what you're going to do. From that, you can then decide what shape you're going to use, what kind of accessories you're going to need. I'd say a really nice tip is just to buy cheap and cheerful things that you can customize, you can bling up, you can make it look amazing.

It's very easy, there's a fabulous thing called hot-fix, which is used for hot-fix mine stoning. Now, this gets really, really hot, so be very careful, but it's fabulous, a bit time-consuming, but it makes things look amazing, there's no glue marks or anything like that. Again, so you're just putting the rhinestone in there and you can just hot-fix on to any kind of costume which will even make anything from prymark look amazing, believe me.

If you so decide that your costume wants to be purple and you can't find the purple you like, dyeing is really simple. You know, a little tub of it, bang it in the washing machine, really cheap and cheerful way to make anything look exactly the color you want. You've got to think about your whole look when you're doing a burlesque costume.

Again, so you want your accessories to match exactly to what you're going to be wearing and also you have to think about how you're going to take that piece of costume if you're wanting to do a full striptease as a burlesque artist. You have to think about where your zips going to be, how you're going to take something off, is it going to have Velcro or poppers, really think about those such things, exactly how and where you want to be taking that item of clothing off. Again, whether you can get out of your shoes is also really important.

All these things, you're always thinking about. Also, the High Street's great to get things you can get out of as well. 1950s costumes look so fashionable right now, so you can always source things from there.

Again, do your research, look at what the old girls used to do. Youtube is a fantastic source to see what costumes they used to have. Get some inspiration from that, have a play, go and get some accessories from any haberdashery and just stick it all on, make it glamorous, peaceful.
