How To Make Celeriac And Potato Gratin

Step 1: You will need...
- 1 medium celeriac, peeled & finely sliced
- 450 g potatoes, peeled & finely sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp thyme leaves, chopped
- salt & freshly ground black pepper
- 300 ml single cream
- 300 ml milk
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 1 gratin dish, buttered
- 1 bowl
- 1 whisk
- aluminium foil
Step 2: Preheat the oven
Set the oven to 180ºC (350ºF/ gas mark 4).
Step 3: Mix the milk and cream
Pour the milk and cream into a bowl and mix together well.
Step 4: Prepare to bake
Layer the potatoes and celeriac in the gratin dish. Sprinkle the herbs and garlic over each layer. Season with salt and pepper and pour over some of the milk & cream mixture.
Continue layering until all the ingredients are used up, finishing with the remaining milk & cream mixture. Finally, sprinkle the parmesan on top.
Step 5: Bake
Cover the dish with aluminium foil and bake in the oven for about half an hour.
After this time remove the foil and continue baking for another twenty minutes, until the potatoes and celeriac are tender and the top is browned.
Step 6: Serve
Remove the dish from the oven and serve while piping hot.
