How To Make Cupcakes Frosting

In this tutorial Annabelle, professional pastry chef at Confection Perfection, shows you how to make cupcake frosting from scratch. You can then use these iced cupcakes as a base for any number of fantastic decorations!

Ingredients

  • cupcakes, with a paper case that rises above the level of the cake
  • 250 g fondant icing powder
  • 25 ml water
  • stock syrup, made of equal parts sugar and water

Method

Put your fondant icing powder in a mixing bowl and set it over a pan with a bit of water in it. Set the heat under the pan to medium.

Add 25 ml of water to the icing powder and mix until it has completely melted.

Add a little bit of the stock syrup and blend thoroughly to give you a smooth finish.

Once the fondant is a consistency that you can easily pour, pour a little over your cupcake. Move the cupcake around so the icing runs over the top evenly. Give it a few taps on the table to dislodge any air bubbles, you can then pop them when they rise to the surface.
