When a lot of clients come in with damaged hair and they want me to make it healthy, there are a few things I need to assess. So, one of them is whether it's damaged through mechanical damage and that usually means through excess blow drying, using straightening irons and all that sort of stuff or there's environmental damage, so either by swimming in chlorinated pools that might have chlorine build-up and there's also chemical damage from overuse of coloring, perhaps perming if people still do that or chemically straightening your hair. Also, we need to assess whether the hair's fine, medium or thick.

I don't want to give someone with really fine hair a moisturising treatment. I would do more of a protein treatment so the hair will be in better condition but not way down and heavy. So for that one, I'd recommend Alterna 1.

It will have all the strengthening nutrients to make the product stronger on the inside without weighing it down. And for thicker hair, I'd go for the caviar moisturising treatment. We find that that adds more moisture to the hair and takes away that frizzy feel.

If the hair is really damaged through chemical damage, they might be a lot of protein missing from the hair and if you just put a lot of moisture into the hair, you're going to find the hair is still soft and it's weak. So, what you need to do is make sure you put protein back into the hair first and that means putting anything with a keratin based product into the hair to make it strong before you put any moisture back in. To keep your hair stress-free throughout the day, it's really good to use a third step conditioner.

Third step conditioners come in many forms. We have here a leave-on conditioner, hair elixir form Alterna, and you just spray that in before you comb your hair and that will be your third step conditioner. There's another one you can use which is overnight hair rescues.

These are treatments that you can wear at night to put on dry hair and the in the morning, you just wash it out and that's a really good one, it doesn't take any time to doing. And these other third step ones which are really great for environmental damage and mechanical damage through straightening irons and blow drying, and it's really good, you just spray the hair and it gives a nice sort of shine and mist and at the end of that, you can use a straightening iron on top or you can use a straightening iron and spread this afterward as well. And that will keep your hair nourished throughout the day. .
