Learn how dreadlocks are styled with the use of a locking tool as demonstrated in this video.
Hi, and welcome to the Braiding Lounge Academy. My name's Lauralyn and we're going to be demonstrating some techniques on different hairstyles today on Afro hair and European hair. I'm going to now show you what we call an interlock.
It's a dreadlock made with a crochet tool like this. Okay, this is an interlocking tool and this form of locks can be put in and it can also be taken out, and it's very popular with city locks styles as well. So, this is what we'll be using.
I'm going to attempt to make a lock in her hair. Okay, as we go through with the tool, we go up from way down and avoid, and what you try to do is never go through the same hole. So, they now go in from the right to left, but if you're left-handed, from the left to right, and then we go up and down, hook the hair on and bring it through.
Continue the up and down movement, left and right, until it locks up to the roots, okay. And what we have there is an instant lock. I haven't taken it out to the root, I'm going to do that with another one for you in a second.
Okay, so we're going to go up first and down and to the side, and this will continue to lock over at the hair shaft. You can see, it's locking from this end going up. So, this is the area we're continuing to lock.
Okay, it's basically a second lock there. Okay, and that's how we normally start our dreadlock. So, this is how we make a dreadlock with the interlocking tool and that's the complete lock to the root.
Now, when this lock grows out from the root, you would then continue to lock the hair that has grown out from the root. Continue the lock up. The advantage of locking this way is that you don't lose length on the hair by having to roll it.
You get the full length of the lock everytime you relock. .
