How To Make Empanada Dough

Empanadas are delicious filled pastries which are eaten throughout Latin America and Spain. In this step by step guide Fabricion Cano Davila shows you how to make the Mexican version of empanada dough. Fill with meat, vegetables or cheese.

  • 500 g plain flour
  • 10 g salt
  • 30 g sugar
  • 120 g lard, at room temperature
  • 1 ml vanilla essence
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 170 ml warm milk


Put your flour in a bowl, then make a well in the centre of it.

Pour your egg yolks, warm milk, salt, sugar, vanilla essence and lard into the flour.

Mix everything together with your hand, then knead on a clean surface for about 10-15 minutes.

Let the dough rest for 30-40 minutes.

When you want to use the dough, make it into circles. fill with your filling of choice, then bake for about 15-20 minutes.
