How To Make Fabric Flowers
Looking for a classy way to hide that stain on your favourite bag? Here's a flowery solution. This Videojug film will teach you how to make your own fabric flowers, the colourful accessory that can add a little punch to your new dress, bag, hat, headband and even your shoes!
I'm going to show you how to make a fabric flower like this one. So, step 1, the things that you'll need are a piece of felt, some scissors, a needle and thread, and you'll also need a template. So, this is just a circle that's 8 centimetres in diameter but you can draw around a cup or something similar.
So, the first thing to do is to take your felt and fold it in half. Then, you're going to take your template and pin it on to the felt. Make sure that you pin close to the edges of the pattern and that you pin all the way around.
Then, we're going to cut out around the pattern keeping as close to the pattern as you can and then, you can take your pattern off and you've got two circles of felt. So, you're going to need to do this another three times so that you end up with eight pieces - eight circles of felt. So, I've cut out my eight circles of felt.
I'm going to set one piece aside and I'm going to take the other pieces, then fold them in half and then fold them in half again to make a quarter of a circle. I'm going to take my front piece of felt and I'm going to lay my folded piece on top of it. Just going to take my needle and thread, I'm going to do two back stitches to secure the thread in the centre of the flat circle.
This works better than a knot. Then, I'm just going to sew the tip of the folded piece onto the centre of the circle. So, I'm going to do a couple of stitches this way and then a couple of stitches across the other way.
Make sure that you go through all the layers of the felt so that you've got the inside of the folded piece got in as well as the outside. Then, I'm going to take the next circle, I'm going to fold it in half, fold it in half again, and this time, I'm going to place it on the opposite side of my circle and I'm going to stitch that one to my flat piece. Okay, so we're going to take the next piece, fold it in half, fold it in half again.
We're just going to overlap it slightly and lay it on top of the next one, so we've got another section left. So, once you've got your six folded petals sewn onto your fabric, you just need to fold up your last one and just sew it into the centre of the circle, just on top and just finish this off on the back, a couple of back stitches .Then, we can take out our pins and flop out the petals.
And that's how to make a fabric flower. .
