How To Make Hello Kitty Cupcakes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups self-raising flour
  • 1 cups (250ml) (same as two sticks) unsalted and softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 edible gel pen
  • 1 small piece of pink fondant
  • 1 tub of edible glitter
  • 1 small piece of white fondant
  • 1 small piece of yellow fondant

Step 1: Making The Butter Cream

In a large mixing bowl, combine both types of flour, the unsalted and softened butter, the sugar, the eggs, the milk, the vanilla extract, and finally the salt, before whisking this mixture together until you form a lovely, smooth butter cream. Adding a coloring is optional, and in this case it's encouraged because a nice pink, for example, would fit the theme of girly kittens quite nicely.

Step 2: Applying The Butter Cream

Very slowly and carefully squeeze the butter cream in a decorative spiral shape on top of the bare vanilla cupcake. If you are experienced at doing this, you can hold the cupcake with one hand and with the other hand alone squeeze the bag accurately onto the cake to form a more accurate spiral shape, smothering the top of the cake beautifully. However, if you are not too confident at doing this, hold the piping bag at the wider end, just above where the contents lead to, with one hand, and with the other hand hold lightly the base of the bag near to where the nozzle is, just to keep it steady. With your first hand, the one positioned at the wider end of the bag, you must squeeze slowly yet firmly until the butter cream is released, and, keeping the whole thing steady with your other hand, you then begin the motion of forming a spiral on top of the cake.

Step 3: Creating The Hello Kitty Face

Take the white fondant, roll it into a ball, and then use your hands to flatten it out to form a flat platform to use the circle cookie cutter on. Having cut a perfect circle out of this white fondant and putting it aside temporarily, use the remaining white fondant and cut out, with the knife, two very small triangles. These will form the ears. Now, using the edible gel pen, you need to draw on two bold, oval shaped eyes, and then followed by the whiskers with very small and light dashes of the pen. Now, very gently press the triangles onto the butter cream, attaching them to the outline of the top part of Hello Kitty's face, forming ears. A tiny, rolled up piece of yellow fondant for the nose. Use the pink fondant to create, by pressing it together in different ways with your hands, little bow to attach to the top right corner of Hello Kitty's face. Now, finally, gentle sprinkle the edible glitter all over Hello Kitty's face, providing the attractive finishing touches, making Hello Kitty beautiful indeed.
