Ingredients

  • marzipan
  • food paste colouring
  • edible glue
  • dust colour
  • rejuvenator spirit
  • food pen
  • raw spaghetti

Method

When making flesh-coloured figures, err on the side of caution when adding colour. Paprika shades work well for creating flesh tones.

To make a marzipan baby, you can use a head mould. Roll some marzipan into a smooth ball and dust with icing sugar. Ease the marzipan into the mould, making sure the head gets slightly narrower at the back. In order to attached to a model, the marzipan needs to dry first. Pin the head onto a strand of raw spaghetti and stick into a piece of foam. Make sure you tell your guests to remove the spaghetti before eating the marzipan! Once dry, add some facial features using dust colours mixed with rejuvenator spirit or food pens.

To make the body, roll a larger piece of marzipan into a ball and, using your fingers, taper the ball down at one end. Flatten down some smaller balls of marzipan and glue to the bottom of the body using edible food glue.

For the baby's blanket, roll out a flat piece of pink marzipan. Sit the baby's body at the front, estimate how much blanket you would like and cut away any excess. Brush food glue on to the body. Press the head into the body, using the strand of raw spaghetti, and wrap the blanket around. Pleat and trim the marzipan blanket as much as you would like. Smooth any cracks away using your fingers. You can add a curl of hair with yellow marzipan rolled into a thin sausage shape and twisted round.
