How To Make Oobleck

Today, I am going to show you how you can make Oobleck, which is a strange type of liquid which has wastage properties. We need a bowl, corn flour or in America, they call it corn starch which is the same thing, some food color and some water. So, now, we are going to measure about a cup of corn flour, take it in the bowl, put the color in and mix some water, about half a cup of water and we are just going to mix it, make it as homogeneous as possible.

So, mix it as much as possible. It is very strange and difficult while you mixing it and not quite interesting. Corn flours have lots of starch in it and starch is really a very large molecule which gives some very strange properties.

And now, it is mixed as homogeneous, as you can see how, the effect, so it's a liquid. If I stir it very fast, you see, it's solid. If you pick the solid, it turns liquid.

And the reason it does is because it got these very large starch molecules in it. Starch molecules are very large molecules and when mixed with water, they actually, when you move them around, they get stuck together and they rub together and they become solid. So, you have a liquid like this and when you mix, it becomes solid.

I can take a handful of it and if I let go, becomes liquid. So, that's how you make Oobleck. .
