How To Make Orange Frosting
Orange cream cheese frosting is delicious on top of cupcakes, carrot cake, or any other cake! In this step by step guide, Donna Egan from the Buttercup Cake Shop shows you how to make a delicious creamy orange frosting.

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 kg icing sugar
- 400 g cream cheese
- 500 g butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 tsp orange essence
- 1 orange
Step 1: Mix the Butter and Cream Cheese
Whisk the butter and cream cheese together in an electric mixer, starting on a lower speed. Scrape down the sides periodically to make sure you mix all the ingredients together.
Step 2: Add the Icing Sugar
When the butter and cheese mixture is light and fluffy, add the icing sugar and whisk again, starting at a low speed. Once all the ingredients have combined, mix it on the highest setting to make it light and fluffy.
Step 3: Add the Orange
Add the orange essence and the zest of 1 orange and mix again.
Step 4: Top Tip
This recipe makes a lot of icing, so if you just have one cake or a few cupcakes to cover, you can reduce the quantities proportionately.
