How To Make Origami Snowflakes
Origami is a fascinating craft, but finished pieces make it seem like even basic designs must be difficult. This Videojug presentation shows the surprisingly simple way you can make a beautiful and versatile snowflake design, either as a starting point or an everyday decorating trick.
This is how you make a paper snowflake. It's also called an eight-point star or a transforming star, and it's actually modular origami, and this means that we make multiple identical pieces and then build them together. So, first, we're going to make one piece.
Fold it in half, fold it again, open it, and then fold it diagonals. Open it back up, and now, we're going to fold this corner into the middle and again, on this side, then fold the model in half now, and what we're going to do is just open this part up and pull this triangular section in on itself so you get something like this. And this is one piece.
Now, we make eight of these pieces. Here's another one. We're gone assemble them together to build a model.
Now, what we're going to do is put this triangle into this part of the Y. See these two flaps there? We're going to tuck these in on each other so it joins up with the other piece like so. Assembling together - and you should notice that these pieces sort of slide in and out of each other.
Now, if you make several more of these and combine them, you'll slowly form this kind of circle shape. So to finish it off, we will assemble them together. So we're going to push this piece into here, then push these triangular bits into the top of that Y, like so, and the final step is to push the remaining piece into there and this part is a little more tricky, you have to force these flaps inside, ease it, open gently and push them in.
So far, you've got this kind of O shape. Now, to make it into a star, all you have to do is push these parts gently into each other and it will start forming the shape of the star. If any of the flaps have opened, just push them back in.
There we go, and eventually, you will form a star or a snowflake, okay. And there's your snowflake. .
