How To Make Poms Poms

Hello. I'm going to show you a really quick and easy way to make pom poms. You'll need a ball of wool, some scissors and a piece of stiff card or plastic or a book.

I'm going to use this chopping board, it's nice and clean. So, step one, you're going to take your ball of wool and wind it around your book or piece of card. You need to get a really good thick layer of wool around your card or book.

So, step two, take a piece of wool and just tuck it under your layers of wool on your card. To make it easier, you can thread it through a needle and pass it through. Make sure it goes under all the layers.

So, what I've done is put a piece of wool underneath the thick layer and making sure I've got all the threads caught in and then I'm just going to tie it at the top like that and then tie it again in a knot. This doesn't have to be too tight; it's just to keep the threads all together. I'm going to do the same at the other end as well.

So, I'm picking up all the threads dropping my needle in behind, pulling it up, and tying it at the top. So, I've got both ends of my skein of wool secured and I'm just going to pull it off the former. Okay, so now I've got a nice skein of wool.

So, I'm going to take some more thread, and I'm going to it tie around the skein of wool. I want to tie it as tightly as I can. You can get somebody to put their finger on the knot, if you like, and I take another piece of thread and tie it further down.

You want to make the sections roughly the same size. The further apart they are, the bigger your pom poms are going to be. Okay, so then you're going to cut in-between the tied-off areas.

Just cut straight through the middle, and then you can fluffy it out. So, you might need to trim off some of the ends of the wool, just to make a nice and neat pom pom shape. So, that's your first pom pom.

And you can carry on making pom poms going down through your skein of wool. Just trim them off. And that's how you make a pom pom!
