How To Make Potatoes Au Gratin

Alex Connell, Principal Tutor and Chef of the Cordon Vert Cooking School prepares a potatoes au gratin in this tutorial. This dish is creamy, cheesy, delicious and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml milk
  • 100 ml cream
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 150 g cheese, grated

Step 1: Soften The Potatoes

Add 500ml milk to a sauce-pan and heat. Add 100ml cream, 1 thinly sliced onion and 1 crushed garlic clove. Then add in 1kg of potatoes, peeled and finely sliced. Cook for around 5 minutes to soften the potatoes.

Step 2: Remove The Potatoes

Transfer the potatoes to a casserole dish.

Step 3: Make The Sauce

Add 1 tsp cornflour and 1 tbsp water to a small bowl. Stir and add to the pan containing the cream and milk. Add 150g grated cheese to the pan. Stir.

Step 4: Pour And Bake

Pour the sauce over the potatoes. Place the casserole dish in the oven and bake for 25 minutes at 180C.

Step 5: Sprinkle And Serve

Take out of the oven. Sprinkle some grated cheese and return to the oven for another 10 minutes. Remove and Serve.
