How To Make Red Velvet Cake Icing
This icing is what makes the red velvet cake even more dramatic looking.
Hello, my name is Sarah Jones and I'm on the Especially Delicious Cake Company. We make gorgeous birthdays, weddings and all types of celebration cakes perfect for your party. And now, I'm going to show you how to make cake decorations.
I'm going to show you how to make red velvet cake icing. First off, we cream the cream cheese and the butter together. This is 100 grams of butter to 200 grams of cream cheese and just combine them together with your spatula.
Do quite vigorous streaks so they're all smoothed in. Let's now add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Combine that in, just gently smooth it around and next, we'll add our sifted icing sugar.
Just add this little bit at a time until you get a nice consistency. This mixture will be enough to fill and cover an 8-inch cake. I'm just adding it a little bit at a time.
If you add too much, the icing sugar will go everywhere. You can do this in a food mixer if you have one but cream the butter and the cream cheese together first and then add in the icing sugar. That is nice and slowly in the beginning until it becomes incorporated with the butter and cream cheese and when it starts to get more involved, you can work it a bit harder and get rid of any lumps that may form.
Let's add our last bit of icing sugar now. And then, you can see it's thickening up now, that's where the nice consistency to it. So, scrape all around the edges and beat out any lumps.
