How To Make Roti

  • 3 cups (750ml) warm water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 cups (750ml) medium chapati flour

Step 1: Make the Dough

Put the chapatti flour in a bowl, then add the oil and mix together. Add the warm water and kneed for a good two or three minutes to form a smooth ball of dough. Cover the bowl and rest for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Start heating

Heat a flat pan on the hob. Break off a small ball of dough and roll into an evenly flattened disk, then place on the hot pan. Wait about 15 seconds then turn it over. After about 15 seconds turn it back over.

Step 3: Cook evenly

Press down on the roti so that every part cooks evenly. Keep turning and pressing so there are no raw parts. Do not allow the roti to overcook or it will become crispy. To finish you can spread a little ghee or butter over one side, and serve.
