How To Make Salt Dough

Salt dough is easy to make at home. Just whack a few cooking ingredients in a bowl and stick it in an oven. Even a monkey could make salt dough, which is lucky, because that is all we could get to make ours!

Step 1: You Will need

  • Plain flour
  • Fine salt
  • Scales
  • A bowl
  • A rolling pin
  • Jug of water
  • Cookie cutters

Step 2: Making the dough

Use the scales to weigh out 8oz of flour, and place this into your mixing bowl. Then weigh out 4oz of salt and add this to the flour. Gradually add the water to the bowl whilst mixing with your hands. The mixture will soon form into a doughy ball, at which point you can remove it from the bowl and knead it on the table until it is smooth and playable.

Step 3: Shaping the dough

Once you feel the dough is ready, flatten it with a rolling pin and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Alternatively you can just mold the dough into any shape you wish with your hands.

Step 4: Baking the dough

Put your salt-dough shape into the oven at 200 degrees and cook for about 10 minutes. Remove the model after the appropriate amount of time, and decorate it in any way you wish, whether that be with paint, glitter, fur, or anything else you can think of.
