It isen't non Scandinavian. When I visited Norway people served breads (various kinds) with things like cheese, tomatoes, jams, spreads, meats, etc. From this video the pickled herring, fruit, and crisp bread with toppings was familiar.

However, I assume when they don't have company people don't take out the huge selection of items they did when I was there, but just what they feel like that morning.

The funny thing was they all thought we ate toast/bacon/eggs/suasge every day for breakfast in Canada/USA since that is what people served when people I know from Norway were here visiting. I guess most people anywhere usually eat a small simple on the go breakfast.

risengrynsgrøt (rice porridge) is usually made for dinner in norway. we make it in a simmilar way, but with put sugar, cinnamo and butter on top of each portion
waffles are not like the belgian ones presented here and maple syrup??? how truly scandinavian... this reminds me of the pizza everyone in norway thought was original during the 70´s and 80´s-I don´t think any other country makes pizza this way.

I've made this every morning for about a week now coz it's so tasty but can anyone tell me why the milk I use seems to split or looks like it's curdling a bit? I've been using organic semi-skimmed milk-could it be that? Thanks

Sorry, forgot to mention-I've altered the quantities to make it for one coz 4 is too much for me (I live alone). I'm not keen on the idea of making a main batch and keeping the leftovers for the next day. Could this be messing things up a bit.
PS It's also deliciious with pear and apple for a change.

I guess we scandinavians have an agreement that this is something we have never heard of. The cook didn't look very scandinavian either. :-)

Rice porridge? In Finland we eat it mostly on Christmas, and with cinnamon powder instead of apple and vanilla! If it's not Cristmas, we might eat rice porridge but we'd use just sugar and berries. No raisins, apple or vanilla. That's outright horrible.

Use oat porridge or barley porridge with either butter or sugar and berries for taste, depending on whether you like your porridge salty or sweet. For the berries, you can mix strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and redcurrant.

Crisp bread is great, but we Finns like rye bread with butter even better.

Speaking of butter, it's an imporant element of the Finnish kitchen. Cooked fresh potatoes, baltic herring (pickled in a mild dill-and-water mix), dill and butter is an amazingly simple dish but it's extremely tasty.
