How To Make Silly Putty

Pour 2 tablespoons of PVA glue into a pot or other container. Add to this 2 tablespoons of starch. Liquid starch is best but you can just spray some spray starch in to a jug, making sure you do it in a well ventilated area.

Step 3: Mixing

Stir the mixture quickly with a fork, and you will find it bonds quickly into a ball. There will be some fluid left behind, and this can just be discarded.

If the mixture is not bonding, simply add a touch more starch. It may be interesting to try a little less starch as well to see the effect it has. You will find that as long as you keep it moving in your hands it will be solid, but the moment you stop it returns to a stringy liquid.

Step 4: Kneading

Pick up the lump that has formed and knead it in your hands for about 5 minutes. It will become firmer, and the moisture it has retained will be squeezed out. The longer you knead the putty, the firmer it will become.

Flatten the putty, and add a couple of drops of food colouring of your choice. Rub this over the surface of the putty, and then knead further until it has spread evenly throughout the putty.
