Step 1: You will need:

We're going to show you how to make a simple pair of drop ear-rings. Step one, You will need the above materials. Beads and jewelry findings can be bought from any craft shop or the internet. Beads can be found quite cheaply at car boot fairs in the form of old or broken jewelry. Very nice pieces can be discovered this way.

Step 2: Thread the beads.

These ear-rings can be made with any combination of beads and colors. We'll be using the Murano glass beads. Findings may be silver, gold, plated, bronzed, or any anti-alergic metals. Now, thread the beads. Take one of the headpins and thread on one of the large beads. A useful tip, if your beads have a large hole, thread another small bead on the headpin first. Take one of the small beads, thread it so that it sits snugly against the first bead. Repeat this for the second ear-ring.

Step 3: Prepare the headpin.

The appearance of the ear-ring will depend on how carefully you execute the next step. Measure one centimeter from the top of the small bead. Cut at this point with cutters. Repeat for the second ear-ring.

Step 4: Make fixing loop

Still holding the beads firmly, form a round loop with the round nose pliers. Use the flat pliers to tweak until standing straight.

Step 5: Attach the ear-ring hook.

Take the ear-ring hook and with the flat-nosed pliers open the ring sideways. Just enough to enable you to slip through the ring you've made on the headpin. Close the ring on the ear-ring hook.

Admire your handiwork. Hold it up and give it a little shake to make sure it hangs freely. This is the fun in making jewelry, as you can create unique pieces to your own design. And that's how to make a simple pair of drop ear-rings, the Videojug way.

I also wanted to say that if you are not overwhelmingly pleased with your first attempt, try again. Learning comes quickly when making jewelry. Just remember to have fun. Having fun is a healthy thing to do.

I make and sell jewelry, so I wanted to see what this video had to say. Bravo! Making jewelry can be easy or it can be hard. Much has to do with the way a person is introduced to it. Videojug succeeded in making it easy while still being complete with the instructions. Two things I would add. I personally don't have velvet or corduroy around. I use an old bath towel (as close to white in color as I can find so as not to interfere with my judgment of the bead colors) as a work surface. I also keep a towel (of any color) in my lap as those pesky beads like to escape if they can, even though the towel prevents them rolling around. Once they arrive on the floor, the dust bunnies eat them, never to be seen again. So I prefer my lap trap. Once you start with a simple project like this, you will likely want to do more. People sometimes tell me they want to make jewelry but don't know where to begin. I tell them to visit me to learn a few basics, then buy a simple book on jewelry and study. Just start with a simple design from the book and design ideas will occur to them as they work. As one person said, "Oh, I could do this. . . or I could do that. . ." Creativity comes while you work much more frequently than when you just sit and ponder. I learned that the hard way, fearing to begin. I hope this video inspires you.
