How To Make Steak Tartare

Steak Tartare Recipe. A traditional and exquisite dish made with the highest quality minced beef. A flavoursome dish for all occasions. Savour our Steak Tartare recipe.

Step 1:

You will need…

  • 800 g Beef Minced Meat
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 tbsp capers
  • 4 gherkins
  • 4 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 egg yolks (optional)
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium bowl
  • 4 plates for serving
  • 1 spoon

Step 2:

Prepare the meat

Place the minced meat in the medium bowl, and add the olive oil, salt and pepper and using your hands, blend together well. Take approximately one quarter of the seasoned meat, about 200 grams, make a ball with it and then place it on the serving plate. Press lightly on the meat to flatten it.
Take approximately the same amount of meat as the first time and repeat the same process, placing one meat ball on each plate and pressing on it to make it flat.

Step 3:

Add egg yolks

This stage is optional.
Using the tablespoon, press on the centre of the meat to make a small indent. Break the eggs, one at a time into this small indent.

Step 4:

Garnish and serve

Add some mayonnaise, capers and onions to each plate, spread some chopped parsley onto the dish and serve.

I love this dish, had it in spain recently and it tasted glorious, fantastic. The meat has to be the best type and fresh. it goes well with chips.

Why YUCK because it is raw? By G-d, hard salami, prosciutto and numerous other smoked meats that are not heat processed are raw and everyone loves them. If one makes tartare, strict hygiene must be observed, and using bare hands to mix the ingredients shoulde be avoided - use utensils. Meat should be super fresh and prior to preparation washed under hot running water for a few minutes. Better yet, the meat should be processed to a paste and not be minced in a grinder! That is a NO NO! Bon apetit.

That looks great. I've had it with some mustard added to the meat as well.

Pork can be served the same way..during the mad-cow epidemic in Europe they served raw portk sanwiches all over Germany..I could not tell the differnece, in looks or taste. In Fact, I lost a bet, thought I was eating beef. Of course, I think the german butcher shops may be cleaner.

it is actually a great dish. I have had served in the Qeens Grille on the QE2. that was the only way I would have ever dreamed of trying a dish like this. But I was very surprised how well it tasted. But I agree the nix-nay on the Mayo.

I'm from Poland and it's kind of a traditional starter. The meat should be arranged in smaller portions on a separate plate. We serve the rest of ingredients finely chopped in separate bowls. To eat it you should mix the meat with onions, capers egg yolks, salt pepper and some oil. You can also add vinegar or lemon juice and finely chopped marinated mushrooms. Don’t add mayonnaise and parsley! YUCK!

This is heavenly. Served with some rye bread, spicy pickles and onions. can't get it any better. As for it being raw. Hygiene is the keyword here. nothing can happen. It's not just some ordinary burger mince they use. It's fresh, prime fillet steak.

To the 2 "it's raw" commenters . . . . IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE RAW!!!!!!!!!! Normally however it's much better to finely chop the onions and maybe a little garlic and mix together with the parsley.
