How To Make Taramasalata
- Serves:
- 4-6
- Preparation Time:
- 5 minutes
- Cooking Time:
- 10 minutes
- Total Time:
- 15 minutes
Step 1: You will need ...
- 200 g pressed cod roe
- the juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 200 ml olive oil
- 2 tbsp warm water
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp parsley, chopped
- 1 mixer with a whisk attachment
- 1 bowl
- 1 fork
- 1 spoon
Step 2: Whisk the roe
Spoon the roe into a bowl. Mash it with a fork to break it up. Place it into the mixer, and add in the egg yolk, lemon juice and garlic. Whisk on high speed to combine. Still whisking, slowly begin to pour in the olive oil, little by little. Make sure that every batch is thoroughly incorporated before adding in the next. Keep adding the oil, until the mixture forms a smooth, mousse like texture. Add in a little water and allow it to combine.
Step 3: Garnish and serve
Spoon the taramasalata into a small canapé dish. Garnish with the chopped parsley and serve! Try it with warm pita bread and some olives. Enjoy!

this dis is TURKISH not GREEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Never with the egg yolk!! And a staple is needed like bread crumbs or boiled potatoes.
We make this recipe in Greece 40 days before Easter when we start fastening. We never put egg yolk... There are many alterations, some add boiled potatoes or bread crumbs, fresh green onions, garlic or dill. Always olive oil and a bit of lemon juice! Also, try the white cod roe, not so familiar but great taste :) We usually combine it with a thin sesame bread called "lagana".
as pipi says, it's taramOsalata with an "o"...
The classic fish roe salad is not NEVER put egg yolk. The olive oil and lemon juice put alternately
some ingredients missing...and steps to make it almost wrong..sorry but u can`t eat this it`will be too salty and you will taste cod roe with oliveoil..:(
actually in Greece pronounce it taramOsalata
this recipe makes absolutely loads, and its a bit runny. i'd not bother with the water at the end, and use groundnut oil instead because the olive oil is a bit overpowering. but otherwise good, simple and easy to make.
very good
