Step 1: You will need
Step 2: Milk
Pour the milk into a non-stick saucepan and bring it to a simmer - small bubbles should appear on the surface. Don't boil the milk or it will burn
Step 3: Add oats
Slowly add the oats, salt and sugar stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon all the time.
Step 4: Simmer
Keep stirring until bubbles appear again. Then reduce the heat, cover the pan and cook gently for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the oats: the finer they are the quicker they'll cook.

When the porridge is done, it will be thick but pourable and the oats will be soft
Step 6: Toppings
Now add in some cream to taste and stir. You might also wish to add a table spoon of honey.
Tips & Comments
This recipe is amazing, yeah its not an everyday recipe because you will put on weight (unless you follow a healthy balance like get your backside out to excersie if you can each day) but its certainly different to the borning old so called 'healthy way', As tasted great and the perfect! every now and again choice! and if you follow the instructions exactly (minus cream personally) you have a great tasting, set up for day breakfast. I wouldnt recommend using everyday though if this is your routine breakfast of choice as you can amend porridge and make it how you like even using water if you prefer to cut calories, this is just someone elses way. Not all the comments below are that fair to be honest. ( U stick a video on hear and make the effort to show us your way at least, then we can be the judge of that). Thanks for the vid. ;-)
If you want your cholesterol level to go into an unsafe level follow this recipe. However if you would like a traditional Scottish porridge that is healthy for the heart use 40grams of rolled oats 300ml of water a pinch of salt bring the whole lot to the boil reduce the heat and simmer, stirring CONTINUOUSLY should be ready to serve with whatever you fancy in about 5 to10 mins
I've been standing by the pan for 15 mins and realised the proprtions are all wrong here. With 500ml of milk you need about 10 tbsp oats - ie 4 times the amount given here - and it will serve 2 easily. if you wait for all the milk to steam away you might eventually get an edible dish with this recipe!
ew..
Total waste of time. Making the "perfect bowl of porridge" depends on selecting high quality stone milled/rolled oats and slapping these in a bowl with water to taste (for thickness) and microwaving for 1 minute on HIGH. Super healthy food with only one dish to wash afterwards! Porridge can be supplemented by sprinkling honey/raisons/fruit/ yogurt on top AFTER cooking, Eaten every day (as part of a balanced low fat/salt diet) it will add up to ten years of your life.
Rubbish recipe. all you need is 1 part oats and 3 water. a dash of milk honey and fruit if you want on the top
you dont really need that much milk, adding a small cup of oats and then using the same cup fill with milk, and then again with water, should practically be the perfect amounts. also the salt isnt really nesessary.
I just made this a moment ago (am now eating it!) and it's delicious! I didn't know I liked porridge! I didn't have enough milk in the fridge so I used half measures of everything, but that still makes enough for a breakfast in my opinion. Yum yum yum!
