How To Make The Perfect Hamburger

The Perfect Hamburger Recipe. Tuck into a whopping, juicy hamburger with a traditional side serving of crunchy onion rings and Videojug's chunky fries. A global phenomenon just got better! Experience our The Perfect Hamburger recipe.

You will need…

  • 750 g ground chunk steak, containing at least 25% fat (if very lean then add 200g of beef fat)
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 4 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • lettuce
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 onion
  • 4 hamburger rolls
  • ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise
  • 1 frying pan
  • 1 bowl
  • 1 ring (optional)
  • 2 trays
  • cling film
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cutting board

Step 1:

Mix ingredients for the burgers

Place the meat, fat, salt and pepper into a bowl and mix it all together thoroughly.

Step 2:

Shape the burgers

Shape the meat into hamburger rounds, preferably large ones with 200–250 grams of meat in each one.

VIDEOJUG TIP

It is important to press the mixture together firmly so that the burgers don't fall apart during the cooking process. Use a ring if you have one as it is easier to press the meat down and keep it in shape.

Step 3:

Refrigerate

Place the burgers on a plate and cover with cling film then place them in the fridge for a minimum of two hours.

Step 4:

Prepare the garnish

Prepare the garnish for your hamburger. Cut the lettuce, slice the tomato and cut the onion into rings.

Step 5:

Cook the burgers

Heat up the vegetable oil in the frying pan on a high heat. Once the oil is very hot put in the hamburgers and cook for two minutes on each side.

VIDEOJUG TIP

Alternatively, for a wonderful smoked taste, cook them on a BBQ.

Step 6:

Put them in the over for further cooking

For medium cooked hamburgers transfer them to a baking tray and put them in a preheated oven at 250°C for five minutes.

Step 7:

Add garnish and serve

Once cooked, add the garnish and serve in a hot roll together with chunky chips.

VIDEOJUG TIP

Heat up or grill the buns.

2 minutes a side for a hamburger that thick? Wow... I don't care how hot that pan is there is no way it will be cooked all the way through.

I made this yesterday, but I added in addition to the salt and pepper,1 grated onion and a splash of worchestershire sauce, left it to marinade in the fridge for half hour, then squeezed out the excess juices by hand as much as I could to make a compact hamburger, and then fried, came out lovely! yum yum

This might be the "Perfect Hamburger," but it's not typical of what Americans eat once a week. My experience with hamburgers is that it is ground meat (on sale) mixed w/ salt and pepper, and maybe whatever's in the pantry and sounds adventurous, and fried until a little rare. This sounds like a tasty recipe, despite the astounding amount of grease displayed by 25% fatty beef *and* adding oil to the skillet, but this is one gillded lily, just the same. V.J. gets bonus points for the size of the burgers. I'm one of the only Americans in my group of friends who makes them that large.

All of you have to do is put the accompaniments you serve with a burger in it, Simple, great flavour Mustard ,worcester sauce, tomato ketchup, garlic and onion not just salt and pepper.

if you slow cook your burgers they tend to keep all the juices and taste inside! mince is a good way to make burgers as you can add more spices and herbs to add more flavour! a burger a week will also help you loose weight! and by the way im british and trust me, we arnt all thin!

I highly disagree with your recipe, person below me. You never marinate ground beef, and you never use lean beef. Lean beef has less flavour and makes your burgers very dry. Videojug's recipe is pretty boring too.

Use lean, quality beef (not fatty) and marinate with olive oil, mustard, salt + lots of pepper. Never, Fry, Bake OR Overcook your burger (...should still be a little pink in the center). Add marinate during cooking. Top with sharp vermont cheddar or gruyere cheese. Some folks a few bread crumbs to the mix to aid in binding.
