How To Make Waffles
- Serves:
- 6
- Preparation Time:
- 10 minutes
- Cooking Time:
- 15 minutes
- Total Time:
- 25 minutes
Step 1: You will need:
- 280 g flour
- 60 g sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 3 eggs, separated
- 500 ml buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 100 g butter, melted
- for the garnish:
- some powdered sugar
- some fruit
- 1 waffle iron
- 1 bowl
- 1 mixer with whisk attachment
- 1 whisk
- 1 ladle
- 1 brush
- 1 spoon
- 1 serving plate
Step 2: Prepare the iron
Turn on the waffle iron to warm up in preparation for use later on.
Step 3: Combine the dry ingredients
Add the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and the salt into a bowl and mix it all together.
Step 4: Combine the wet ingredients
Into the buttermilk add the egg yolks and the melted butter, making sure that you leave a little behind for later on. Next, add the vanilla and stir well. Pour it over the dry mix and using the whisk, combine slightly.
Step 5: Mix the eggs
Add the egg whites into the mixer bowl. Whip them on a high speed until they are stiff in consistency, but still wet. Do not over-whip them! Pour them into the batter and use your whisk to carefully fold the mix together.
Step 6: Cook the waffles
Brush the waffle iron with butter on both sides. Place one ladle's worth of batter onto the waffle iron. Spread it out to the sides with the back of your ladle, close it and let it cook for approximately 3 minutes. Remove and repeat until all the batter is used.
Step 7: Garnish and serve
Place the waffles onto a serving plate. Garnish with some powdered sugar and some fruit for a vibrant splash of colour. Or if you're feeling more indulgent, try them with maple syrup or hot chocolate sauce. Serve while piping hot. And that's how you make waffles the VideoJug way.
