In order to have the colour of plasticine you want, all you need is to get some yellow wax crayons ready along with the other ingredients in this film brought to you by Science Boffins.
Right now, I'm going to show you how to make yellow plasticine. We got our ingredients down here. We've got a yellow wax crayon, we've got some neutral coloured shoe polish, we've got some petroleum jelly and some plain flour, and I'm going to end up putting it in a little pot.
Now, we do need to melt the ingredients together so we're going to be using a bain-marie which is boiling water with a separate bowl on top and everything is melted in here. Now that our water is boiling, we can put in our yellow wax crayon. We just break it up a bit, helping to melt a bit faster.
You can already see, it's starting to turn to liquid. Then we're going to put in a good tablespoon of neutral shoe polish, a little bit more in there, and give it a good stir. As you can see, straight away, we've got a nice yellow.
It takes a couple of minutes just to melt all the way down. Just give it a good stir and at this point, you can add your petroleum jelly. Just a tablespoon will do again.
Here we are. Now, this will help to keep the plasticine nice and malleable with so much wax in it. If you don't have this, we just end up solid once it's cooled down later.
So this is going to help that. We need to let that all boil down before we add our flour. Okay, keep that stirring.
Make sure you're not burning yourself from the steam coming out of the saucepan. This really is a job for adults only. Okay, so we're almost ready now to add in our flour.
We've just got a last lump or two. I think I can ignore that. So, we're going to put in some flour and this is just to give it a bit more with a solid consistency.
Now that we've got all this wax and grease and stuff in there, you want something just to solidify enough so it doesn't stick to your hands all the time. I found that without this, it's just too greasy. Now, because we're using an oil-based liquid, you don't have to worry about ay lumps because they would dissolve straightaway, dissolve straight into oil, okay.
Now, really, it's just a matter of trial and error, a bit of experience. You can make plasticine however thick you like. Well, we've got a nice consistency now.
That will do. So, we're going to transfer this to a little pot. I'm going to use a towel here just to grab hold of the bowl.
Do not do it without something on your hands and we just pour that into our bowl I mentioned earlier. We're going to put that into the fridge for about 20 minutes and there you have yellow plasticine. .
