Ingredients

  • 570 g self raising flour
  • 280 ml whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 85 g vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 handfuls of cheddar, grated
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried mustard

Method

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, mustard, pepper and cheese.

Add the milk, 2 of the eggs and the oil to a jug and beat well.

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients and mix together until you have a soft dough.

Flour a work surface and knead the dough gently, then cut out scones with a cutter. Place the scones on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Beat the third egg and paint the scones with it.

Bake the scones at 220 degrees Celsius for about 17 minutes.
