I'm going to be giving you a guide to making your own wedding dress. Now, many of us are not standard sizes and the most important dress that we may ever want to wear is likely to be our own wedding dress. Chances are, you won't find exactly what you want in the High Streets, or you might want to use fabrics that aren't available this season, or have just got some vintage ideas. A good thing to do is get a couple of wedding magazines and look for some inspiration in a magazine like this. It might be that you think that's amazing and you might not want to pay the price of the cost of that dress. So, making your own is a great way of saving you money. So once you've looked at a few ideas, put together a little look book. This is what I did for a friend of mine recently, of shapes that suit your figure. A really important thing if you are thinking of making your own wedding dress is to try on some wedding dresses. You'll have ideas and preconceptions about what you want to wear on your wedding day. Often, if you go and try on a wedding dress, the dress you thought you didn't want to wear might be the one that makes you look like a million dollars. Go to a big department store or somewhere that sells wedding dresses and actually try some on. Take a friend with you who is honest. Once you've decided on a style, really you need to just have a little research. There's lot of blogs about people who make their own wedding dresses. There are a few magazines that have done series on making your own wedding dress. Find a pattern that you like that is similar to the one you investigated, similar to the one that you like in the shops. Spend some time researching fabrics, so research the beads you want to use, research the lace, find the best fabrics. There's a big difference in price buying fabrics in the West End or buying fabrics. But you may want to spend all your money on a really gorgeous piece of lace, and then save your money by using some cheap satin underneath the lace. Before you make your dress, it's really important for a wedding dress that you make what I call a toile, which is a mock-up. So, this is sort of a working version, do everything with the pattern that it tells you to do, and you get it fitted to you. You try it on and make all the adjustments so that working pattern will work in toile before you cut out your gorgeous, gorgeous wedding fabric. Have fun with it because making your own wedding dress means you have exactly what you want. If you want to be a rock and roll bride, go ahead and make a complete rock and roll wedding dress.
