How To Make Your Writing Beautiful

Hi I am Veiko from the Calligraphy Studio in London. What is beautiful handwriting and how can you make your own handwriting more attractive? First of look at different books and different styles of writing to see what appeals to you. If you can take some photocopies and using a pencil make some beautiful curved lines.
I have here some handwriting styles from history. This is an example from the fourteenth century. It is written very freely and is made by people who have not seen computer screens or the printed word. The scribe has explored different letterforms within the text and the capital letters in particular are very beautiful.
Take a pencil and practice making some of the letterforms. The p here is made in one line, first with a curve, then going back and finishing with a curve. Here is a beautiful c and g. Just copy the letters try not to worry too much what they will look like. Don’t make the letters too small. Take time to practice, beautiful handwriting is not something that can be learnt overnight.
When you have practiced with pencil you will start to get ideas about how some words and letterforms can be written.
Now that I have had some practice at making the letterforms I have written out the text to see how it will work. It does not matter that my handwriting is not exactly like the original, I have done my best and with practice it will continue to improve.
