How To: Making Paper Flowers

This is how you make an origami tulip. Turn the paper over and make a diagonal fold and then fold the other diagonal. Then do a horizontal fold and open it up. Turn it over and do the remaining horizontal. So you’ve done three folds on the white side and one fold on the pink side. Now we’ll bring these two points in the middle together and then were going to bring the remaining two points in the middle together and we’ll come to what is called triangle base. We’ll fold this point to the middle and repeat on all the other sides. We’re going to fold one of these flaps over to reveal a plain square side. Now turn it over and repeat. So the same flap, you’re going to turn it. And you’ll have a plain square. We’re now going to fold this line into the middle. Well, almost into the middle, basically I’m going to fold it, and it’s going to overlap that middle line a little bit. We’re going to fold a flap into the middle but we’re going to actually overlap that middle line. And you can see we’ve overlapped that line, maybe by two or three millimetres. Now we’re going to repeat on the other side. We’re actually going to fold this line over the middle line and we’re going to overlap this previous flap. They’re going to overlap each other, so they’re going to touch and overlap by about 5 millimetres. Then what we’re going to do is, we’re going to tuck this flap into this pocket here and open this pocket up and then push this pocket into this corner like so. Just force it down and it will lock into place. Turn it over and repeat. Now we are going to fold this triangle and just make a crease and unfold it. Then you’re going to turn it over and repeat the crease on the other side. What I’m going to do now is bend this model slightly, now you see there’s a hole in here. What I’m going to do now is blow into this hole, it’s going to be a big gust of wind and the model will pop open. So you want to hold it by the very tip. Just put your lips on the hole and blow into it, with a big fast blow and it will pop open like so. To finish your flower, simply peel back some of the petals on the outside and there you have your origami tulip.
