How To Manual: Bmx

Pulling off a manual on a BMX bike can be daunting. In this video pro rider Gareth Wilson will show you the simple techniques you can put together to make it a reality.

In this video we are going to show you how to do a manual coasting along on your butt wheel without pedalling. Just balancing the whole way. Okay, travelling at walking pace on your bike just dent your shoulders towards the bars.

Just practice that. Dent your shoulders and just push them back a bit quicker than you dent them. Just to get your weight over the back end.

Just so the front end becomes nice and light and you can just pull it up a lot easier. And that's step one. Okay step two, after the first step start to try and force your legs straight pushing the back wheel of the bike forward.

You will feel it boost off and you will feel it go really light. That's what were looking for. So that's again, when your front wheel is in the air straighten your legs just so the front wheel becomes really light on the balancing point.

Okay step three, pull equally on both sides of the handlebars arms length while keeping the bike on the balancing point by using your legs. Straighten, bending them. As you straighten the legs the bikes front end will come up.

When you bend them it will drop. So using a mixture of these techniques you will be able to keep the front end in the air for as long as you can keep going. What I mean by balancing point is, there is a certain on the back wheel where the front end becomes really light and you can hold it there.

It's usually around this area, but the further you get your weight over the back of the seat the lower the balancing point will be. Little tip I do, if you feel like the front end is becoming to high, and the worst you can do is flip over and land on your bottom, just feather your front bike just to keep it in the safe zone of the balancing point and I would say the better you get the less you need to use your brake and then you will be able to manual for ages. And that's how to manual on a BMX bike.
