How To Measure For A Kitchen Planning Company

I'm going to give you some basic tips on kitchen fitting. In this video I'm going to show you how to measure your kitchen for kitchen planning companies. Most companies will require you to take measurements of your own kitchen, before going to see them and then coming up with a design.



For this kitchen example, I'm going to measure from my far wall to the edge of the wall here. It's going to be 2.4 meters, 2.

4 meters. Further out, I'm going to measure the next wall which will give me the width of my kitchen, which in our example is, we're going to use 1.6 meters.

Also take a measurement of the height of your ceiling so you know, if you wanted extra high wall units, whether you could fit them in or not. We're going to base this ceiling height on the standard height of an 8 foot ceiling.

I'm now going to draw you a rough plan of what you should draw on a piece of paper and take to the suppliers.

This will be based as the floor area of your kitchen, we know it's 2.4 meters overall length and we know it's 1.6 meters wide.

With a diagonal line we can show the height of our ceiling, which in this case is 2.4 meters.

This is the floor area of your kitchen, this will allow them to work out how many units you can fit along your kitchen and across.

What we need to take into consideration, and every kitchen's different, is where you may have things such as doorways and windows.

If, for example in this kitchen we said there may be a window in this corner, we need to show this to prevent a kitchen designer planning base units or wall units along this wall, if they're going to cover the window.

If there was a doorway in this corner we need to also show this to prevent somebody from designing wall or base units across the doorway.

It's also handy to show where you might have your existing sink or your existing gas supply that supports your cooker, things like this will allow the designer to take into consideration where they might position these things.
