Kitchen fitting is easy, well it is for me, I've been doing it for years. My name is Yves Way and today I'm going to give you some basic tips on kitchen fitting. In this video I'm going to show you how to measure up for kitchen units.

These units are already in place and I've set them out at standard heights. We've worked out that the top of this work surface is going to be 900 mil high. The work surface was 30 mil thick, so the top of the unit was at 870 mil.

Setting the wall unit too high might limit access, so be careful not to do so. If I wanted to elaborate on this kitchen and add more units, I need to take into consideration the space I've got left. First of all here, I've got 1570 mil, now taking into consideration that most manufacturers units will increase by 100 mil each time.

Starting around 200, mil going up to 1200 mil wide. I need to work out what I can fit in that space. At 1500 mil, I could get 3 500 mil wall units in that space and it would, mean I would need a small 700 mil filler at one end.

If I wanted to fill something into this lower level, once again I'd measure the space I've got, in this case a 1070 mil, slightly too small for 1 500 and 1 600, but I could use 2 500s or a 1,000 base. Every kitchen is going to be slightly different, so take the measurements and perhaps take them to your supplier, where you wish to get your kitchen units from. They'll be able to offer you advice in what they can supply and what you can fit in those areas.
